The first time an organized paintball game took place in record, was held by Charles Gaines and friends in New Hamshire in 1981, with the first paintball field opening approximately a year later in New York. It was not until 1983 a National Survival Game (NSG), which is a national championship, was held. The championship offered a $14.000 cash award for the winning team. Today tournaments and paintball leagues all over the world organize different competitions.
