THE JOURNEY
Your day begins in regal style with a refreshing Bellini cocktail, served by an attentive steward at your elegant table. Pristine white linen and sparkling glassware prepare you for the fine dining experience to come. Indulge in a three-course brunch as you admire the views both inside and out. Your carriage, which is named after a famous British stately home or castle, evokes the opulence of 1930s "Belle" trains. Outside your window the lush scenery becomes ever more dramatic as the train wends its way to Angus.
On arrival in Dundee, guides will escort you by coach to Glamis Castle. Here you are given a fascinating tour of the turreted, fairytale château, ancestral home of the Earls of Strathmore for over 600 years. Priceless works of art, tapestries and furnishings can be admired in its rooms, and past inhabitants are brought to life with intriguing tales and ghostly legends. The childhood pranks of the young Lady Elizabeth (later to become the Queen Mother) may also be revealed, such as her penchant for pouring freezing water from the ramparts onto arriving guests. Outside there is much to explore, including magnificent Italian and Walled Gardens, a Nature Trail where you may spot red squirrels and herons, and a Pinetum.
At the end of your enchanting visit, rejoin the coach for the short journey back to the Northern Belle. A champagne reception awaits, after which a gastronomic five-course dinner is served. Savour the seasonal delicacies, accompanied by fine wine, as you reflect on the highlights of your day with your dining companions.
